Privacy Policy

River Intel is a navigation intelligence tool for professional and recreational mariners. We take your privacy seriously. We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and how you can control it.

1. Who We Are

River Intel is an inland waterway intelligence platform operated independently. Our service is accessible at asklir.com. For privacy inquiries, contact us at RiverIntel@Protonmail.com.

2. Information We Collect

Account information — When you sign in via Clerk (our authentication provider), we collect your name, email address, and OAuth profile data (if you sign in with Google or X/Twitter). We do not store passwords directly.

Vessel profile data — If you enter vessel dimensions (height, draft, length, beam) in the application, this data is stored on our servers to power bridge clearance and route intelligence features.

Usage data — We collect server logs including IP addresses, request timestamps, and pages accessed. This is used for debugging and security monitoring. Logs are retained for 30 days.

Community Notes — If you submit a community observation (depth sounding, lock delay, hazard report), the content and your account identifier are stored and may be displayed to other authenticated users.

Payment data — If you choose the optional $4.99/month support tier, payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. River Intel does not store your card number, bank account, or full payment credentials. We receive a Stripe customer ID and subscription status only.

3. How We Use Your Information

To authenticate you and provide access to the platform
To compute personalized bridge clearances using your vessel dimensions
To display community observations you submit to other authenticated users
To process and manage optional subscription payments via Stripe
To debug errors and maintain platform security
To send transactional emails related to your account (via Clerk)

We do not use your data for behavioral advertising, sell it to data brokers, or share it with third parties except as described in Section 4.

4. Third-Party Services

River Intel uses the following third-party processors:

Clerk — Identity and authentication. Subject to Clerk's Privacy Policy at clerk.com/privacy.
Stripe — Payment processing for the optional support tier. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy at stripe.com/privacy.
Google Fonts — Font delivery. Google may log requests. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
Federal data APIs — NOAA, USGS, USACE, and USCG public APIs. No personal data is transmitted to these agencies.

5. Data Sources and Navigation Data Accuracy

River Intel aggregates data from federal sources (NOAA, USGS, USACE, USCG). Navigation notices (LNMs/BNMs) are geo-tagged using AI-assisted placement. While we work to maximize accuracy, AI-placed geographic coordinates may contain errors.

We encourage users to report inaccuracies to RiverIntel@Protonmail.com. Do not rely solely on River Intel data for navigation decisions.

6. Your Rights (CCPA / GDPR)

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Correction — Request correction of inaccurate personal data
Deletion — Request deletion of your account and associated data
Opt-out of sale — We do not sell personal data, so no opt-out is required
Portability — Request your vessel profile and community notes in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, email RiverIntel@Protonmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Data Retention

Account and vessel data is retained while your account is active. You may request deletion at any time. Server logs are retained for 30 days. Community notes you submit are retained until you request removal or your account is deleted.

8. Security

River Intel uses HTTPS with HSTS for all connections. Authentication tokens are managed by Clerk using JWT. We do not store plaintext passwords or payment card numbers. Database access is restricted by network policy.

9. Children's Privacy

River Intel is designed for professional and recreational mariners and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us immediately.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when changes are made. Continued use of River Intel after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
